TopClosure® Tension Relief System
The wound closure system invented by Dr. Topaz enables gradual, controlled stretching of the skin and primary closure of large, high-tension wounds. The system is FDA cleared, was reviewed by the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and is applied in hospitals around the world.
It is presented in professional publications as one of the leading Israeli inventions in wound care, and serves civilian medicine, military medicine and mass-casualty scenarios.
Regulated Oxygen-enriched and Irrigation-assisted Negative Pressure Therapy (ROINPT)
Dr. Topaz developed a family of regulated negative-pressure modalities: RNPT (regulated negative pressure alone) and ROINPT, which adds controlled irrigation and supplemental oxygen. Unlike conventional negative-pressure therapy, ROINPT seals the closed wound, suppresses anaerobic growth by raising wound oxygen tension, and provides continuous irrigation-assisted decontamination.
The approach confronts anaerobic and biofilm-associated infection and accelerates the healing of contaminated, hard-to-heal wounds, in civilian, military and mass-casualty settings.
CITA: Controlled In-Situ Targeted ultra-high-concentration Antibiotic administration
CITA, developed by Dr. Topaz, delivers culture-directed antibiotics at ultra-high local concentrations within a defined wound compartment, under daily therapeutic drug monitoring that keeps systemic exposure low. It enables treatment of resistant bacteria, salvage of infected cardiac implantable devices through its minimally invasive application CITA-MIS (also referred to in the literature as the Topaz Procedure), and healing of sternal infections after cardiac surgery. Evaluated in a peer-reviewed study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (2023) as a salvage strategy for selected cases.

China: Teaching, Surgery & Research
More than a decade of continuous activity in China: Visiting Professor at university hospitals, lectures and demonstration surgery, and research collaborations in wound healing.
The Sichuan Earthquake, 2008
Dr. Topaz volunteered to treat casualties of the devastating earthquake, received recognition from the Premier of China, and initiated a sister-hospital alliance between the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center and the Deyang Central Hospital.
Training the Next Generation
Academic director of medical continuing-education programs in China and Asia for the Hebrew University's Magid Institute, and a sought-after speaker at international congresses in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Registered Patents
Among Dr. Topaz's registered patents: a biocompatible injectable solution for ultrasound-assisted surgery (EP 1020180) and wound closure devices (US D652145), alongside the technologies commercialized through IVT Medical.
Research Supervision
Dr. Topaz has supervised M.D. and Ph.D. research at Israeli universities and hospitals, in fields ranging from free-radical protection in eye surgery to novel methods for managing complicated wounds, and has served as a Ph.D. thesis examiner internationally.
A 570-year chain of teachers and students
Academia documents "scientific genealogy": the teacher-student lineage that links a researcher to their mentors, and to their mentors' mentors. Dr. Topaz's documented lineage begins in Padua in 1453 and runs through founders of modern medicine and chemistry, among them Falloppio, Lavoisier, von Liebig, Bunsen and Kekulé, including three Nobel laureates: Adolf von Baeyer, Wilhelm Ostwald and Fritz Haber. The chain converges on Prof. Dan Meyerstein of Ben-Gurion University, Dr. Topaz's doctoral advisor.
